OUR MISSIONS

      The following dates, designated offerings, and projects are provided so that you can prepare to respond to them with generous hearts and anticipation. 

   Sunday, February 1:  Souper Bowl, $2.00/person

   Sunday, February 8:  PW Blanket Offering

   Easter, April 12: One Great Hour of Sharing Offering

   Sunday, May 10: PW Birthday Offering

   Sunday, October 4: Peacemaking Offering

   Sunday, October 18: Crop Walk

   Sunday, December 20: Christmas Joy Offering

      There will be fund raising activities for Mission Tour ’09.  The “coin can” will return in a few weeks, plus some other exciting opportunities. 

      The last “event” is the voluntary contribution of our per capita for 2009.  This year the breakdown is: 

            General Assembly         $  6.15

            Synod                          $  2.10

            Presbytery                    $18.26

            TOTAL                        $26.51 per member

      By writing a check payable to “Donegal Presbyterian Church” for $26.51, marked for “per capita”, you enable other funds in our budget to be freed up.  (You have a special envelope for this in your box of giving envelopes!)  Try to do this during the month of January.  In responding to this request, we increase our mission outreach considerably and the entire church budget for 2009 becomes an even greater force in God’s Kingdom!

ANGEL FOOD MINISTRIES PRESENTATION

Rising food costs, sudden job loss and unexpected medical bills are just some of the reasons many people find it difficult to make ends meet.  Angel Food Ministries is an outreach program designed to provide a helping hand.   Approximately $60.00 worth of brand name groceries or pre-made dinners are sold by Angel Food Ministries through a host site for a cost of $30.00.  Our church may become an Angel Food Ministries host site.

Join the Donegal Outreach Team (D.O.T.), Sunday, January 4, in the Sanctuary during Sunday school time for a presentation and explanation of the Angel Food Ministry program.  An informative video will be shown, there will be a question and answer period plus the congregation’s interest in becoming a host site will be discussed.

There is an overwhelming need for food assistance and prayer within our community. Congregational support of a host site is necessary for the program to thrive and survive.  Come to the presentation on January 4th to learn about opportunities for Donegal church members and friends of all ages to get out of the pews and spread God’s love through His work.

HOPE HOUSE

      Another family has moved from the Hope House into their own place.  They were able to stay in the Donegal School District, which was a priority to them.  The family worked hard to meet their goals of finding work, saving money, and moving into their own place.  They received much of their furniture from the furniture bank and they were so grateful.  This was another success story from the Hope House. 

      Thanks to all who helped in any way.  This is a mission that we can be proud of in these hard economic times.

      I have had calls about donating furnishings or any household items over the years.  If you have anything to donate, please call Lorraine Lutz at the furniture bank.  Her phone is 653-2478 in the morning and 653-1665 in the afternoon.  She can make arrangements for drop off or pick up whatever you need.  The furniture bank furnishes the houses that our families move into and also keeps replenishing supplies in the transitional houses. 

      Please keep this mission in your prayers.  There are also many opportunities for volunteers.
