We will
observe the beginning of Lent, Ash Wednesday, February 17, 6:15-7:30
p.m., in Fellowship Hall. This is a potluck affair but we need to know ho
many will attend because of the logistics involved in the Agape Dinner,
which recalls the meals Jesus shared with people during his ministry.
Following the dinner Tom McKinnon will begin a 5-week series, which will
continue on Sunday evenings, 5:30-7:00 p.m., ending on March 14. Please
bring your own place settings, utensils, and mugs. (We do have paper
plates, etc. if you forget). Sign-up sheets are in the Communication Center
and Fellowship Hall. Childcare provided.
Palm Sunday Breakfast /
Committee Fair
Teams of church members are well on the
way with plans for the Palm Sunday Breakfast and Committee Fair. Read on to
see how you can participate and for details of the morning.
Breakfast will be served sometime after
9 AM – the exact time (or times) is still being determined. We’re planning
right now on a buffet style breakfast, with various egg and potato dishes as
well as sweet rolls. The breakfast will be in Fellowship Hall. If you are
planning to attend, you MUST sign up by March 14th so we can have sufficient
food on hand and so that there will be a place for everyone to sit.
The breakfast is not a budgeted item in
our church’s financial plan. We need donations of food we can serve
everyone. If you would like to donate food or cash (and we hope you can),
please bring the items to the church by Wednesday, March 24. A listing will
be in the Sunday bulletin and in the Communications Center of items that are
needed.
During the breakfast, groups will be
presenting information about their group. The idea is to afford everyone in
the congregation the opportunity to understand the scope of the work of our
church. The hope is that you will be called by the Spirit to join with one
(or more) of the groups to help us achieve our mission as a church: “Faith
Witnessed, Faith Celebrated, Faith to embrace the future so that all may be
whole and fully alive in Christ.” Besides the short presentations, each group
will have a space in the church where you can go and get additional
information about that group’s work and purpose.
At 11 AM, our Sunday worship service
will begin in the Sanctuary. In the time normally reserved for the sermon,
the Senior Choir will be presenting a cantata called “Amazing Love”, a story
of the events of Holy Week leading up to Good Friday.
If you have questions, please see Steve
Sturgis, Mike Wills, or Beth Forry.
In order to make the Breakfast and Fair
a success, these things need your help:
1.
Read the weekly church bulletin to stay abreast on the plans for the
morning
2.
Sign up to attend breakfast
3.
Donate food or cash to the event
4.
Come prepared on Palm Sunday
morning to hear about the work of the church and to consider new ways of being
involved so we can carry out our church’s mission.
